Earlier this year, 25 members of DNB\u2019s \u2018founder-focused\u2019 team participated in the Scale Up! Masterclass. This two-day immersive simulation, \u201cfrom idea to exit,\u201d was designed to enhance the advisors\u2019 ability to guide high-growth companies through the often-turbulent scale-up journey.<\/p>\n

Over two intensive days, advisors worked through the entire founder lifecycle, from idea to IPO, experiencing the challenges founders face firsthand.<\/p>\n

Divided into six teams, the 25 participants selected mock startup companies across industries like cleantech, robotics, and digital health. As the teams progressed through each stage of growth, they tackled the complexities of startup financing, investor relations, and market expansion.<\/p>\n

Day one was focused on early-stage growth, and the teams explored aspects like company ideation, problem-solution fit, burn rate, and pitching to investors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe experience was very practical, which I found refreshing,\u201d shared Christian Arntzen, Senior Advisor at DNB. \u201cI\u2019m used to sitting for hours and listening, but this was hands-on learning. I\u2019ve never experienced getting so much out of such little time.\u201d<\/p>\n

By the end of day one, the teams had completed 23 funding rounds, raised their first capital, and even created a \u201cbank-born\u201d unicorn. \u201cThinking three capital rounds ahead was a big takeaway for me,\u201d Arntzen said, emphasizing how critical long-term planning is for startups.<\/p>\n

On day two, the focus shifted to scaling. The teams experienced the complexities of hypergrowth, managing a 10x valuation increase, and navigating cap table management, outcome scenarios, and exit strategies.<\/p>\n

Maren Eide, another DNB advisor, reflected, \u201cThe workshop added a new dimension. Now, I consider valuation and equity with more nuance, which I can apply directly in my role.\u201d<\/p>\n
